Smoker

I started smoking cigarettes when I was around 15, I am now 20 and my face has aged accordingly. I regret starting every day first of all it is such a waste of money. Every time I have tried quit I cannot deal with it and I end up smoking a pack a day again a day later. I remember that when I started I was adamant about not letting anyone stop me. I smoke like three cigarettes on the way to school and that is not even counting before I leave my apartment, which is only like five minutes from campus. I am super addicted and was thinking about it earlier in my second class that I would ask you guys if you have ever stopped smoking and if so how did you make it stick. I really want to quit this ugly ass habit before I am too old. Help Please? :)

  1. I can offer no help, unfortunately. Smoking killed my dad so I can understand the difficulty of quitting. The marketing of cigarettes is much different in the United States than in Europe and may be partly to blame for the early ages at which people start smoking. Compare this package (http://ec.europa.eu/avservices/download/photo_download_en.cfm?id=195300) to the packages in your possession.

  3. Paul, I have quit twice for a long period of time. This last time I started back was in December and I am so disappointed in myself. It's funny, before reading your blog I put quitting on my list of things to do this week. I have used the patch in the past and have been successful. I started again when my youngest was hospitalized for two weeks in a psych ward. Dealing with stress is a problem for me. I agree with you that it is a nasty habit and a hard one to change.

  4. My Biology teacher said smoking is like suicide the only difference is that you`re doing it slowly. What I heard from smokers who quit it`s only possible if you put it down once and you never get started again. It may sound drastic but the "lower the doses way", which would be the suggested, expect way more strength.
